Royal Mail Safeplace Delivery Guidelines
What kind of location will Royal Mail deliver to as a Safeplace?
A chosen Safeplace must be a secure, weatherproof area of the property that is out of sight and easily accessible for Royal Mail. Please note that requests to place parcels in recycling bins are not considered a suitable Safeplace.
What if I don't want future deliveries to go to a Safeplace?
To opt out of Safeplace deliveries, please download the Royal Mail App, where you can select alternative delivery options for your items. Alternatively, you can contact their Customer Experience Team on 03457 740 740. They're available Monday to Friday from 8am to 6:30pm, Saturday from 8am to 3pm, and Sunday from 9am to 2pm.
Can you leave my item in a Safeplace if I haven’t made a specific request?
If you are not at home to accept a delivery, Royal Mail may leave your item in a Safeplace at your address even without a specific instruction from you. This will only occur if the postperson deems the location to be within their guidelines. If the postperson knows you are a vulnerable customer, they will always try to take this into account when choosing a Safeplace and position the item in an easily accessible location.
My item is shown as delivered, but I haven't received it.
If the item was sent to your home, please check with anyone else living there, your neighbours, or in your designated Safeplace (if you have one).
Remember, Royal Mail can deliver to a Safeplace even if you haven't specifically chosen one.
If the item was sent to your work address, check with the post room and your colleagues. Finally, ensure the shipping address was correct in your account.
Your Royal Mail postperson will put a red slip through your letterbox informing you of where they have delivered if it has been delivered to a safe space.
