Why do I need to share my GP details?

For certain medications, such as those prescribed for weight management, we strongly encourage you to provide your GP details before we issue a prescription. Sharing these details helps us to ensure:

  • Patient safety – confirming that your prescribed medication is suitable and safe for you.

  • Continuity of care – allowing your GP to stay informed about your treatment, ensuring coordinated medical care.

  • Prevention of drug interactions – informing your GP that you are taking weight loss medication helps ensure they are aware of your treatment. This allows them to prescribe any new medications safely and avoid potential drug interactions.

  • Regulatory compliance – this process follows strict healthcare and prescribing guidelines set out by regulatory authorities.

You can choose to skip entering your GP details when completing your consultation, and your prescription request can still proceed. However, we always recommend providing them where possible, as this is the safest way for us to support your treatment.

What if I don't have a GP?

If you do not currently have a GP, you can still complete your consultation and request a prescription. That said, we strongly recommend registering with a GP before starting any treatment. Having a regular point of medical contact helps protect your health and ensures that any medication prescribed is safe and appropriate for you on an ongoing basis.

Will my GP be contacted?

If you provide your GP details, we will send them a letter to inform them about the medication you have been prescribed. This helps keep your medical records up to date and supports your ongoing care. If you choose not to share your GP details, we will not be able to notify them of your treatment. Your information will always be handled in accordance with data protection laws and medical confidentiality standards.

Can I choose not to share my GP details?

Yes. Sharing your GP details is optional, and you can complete your consultation without entering them. However, we strongly encourage you to provide them so we can communicate with your GP and support your wider care. These recommendations are designed to keep patients safe and ensure we provide care to the highest professional and clinical standards.
