Here are a few key things to remember to make sure you get the most out of your test:
1. Make sure your test is scheduled for the morning
You’ll be able to get the most accurate testosterone readings in the morning, so make sure you book between 7:00am and 11:00am. If your test is not scheduled for the morning, please get in touch with our team so we can rearrange the test for you.
2. Do the test on an empty stomach
Refrain from eating for 8 hours prior to the blood test to ensure accurate results. Food can have an impact on your blood test results, that’s why it’s important to fast from the night before, leaving at least 8 hours before the test.
3. Make sure to hydrate well
Dehydration can influence the results and make it difficult to draw blood. Drinking plenty of fluids from the night before the test helps keep more fluid in your veins, which can make it easier to get a sample of your blood.
During Your Appointment: What to Expect
1. The nurse may ask to see your ID
When you arrive, they'll ask to see either a passport or a UK driving licence to identify you. Additionally, you might be asked a few identity-confirming questions for added security and accuracy.
2. Your blood pressure will be measured
As part of a mandatory routine check, we ask to measure all of our patients blood pressures as part of the venous blood test. This is a safety measure to assess your cardiovascular risk before we consider you for any treatment. They may also take other measurements or observations such as height, weight and waist circumference.
3. Your blood sample will be taken by the nurse
During your visit, our nurse will collect approximately two vials of blood. Rest assured, it's done with the utmost professional care to ensure minimal discomfort and maximum accuracy.
4. After the blood test
Your blood test will be sent to the lab for processing, and we will notify you when the results have been sent to the Numan clinical team. This should be within three to five working days.
Understanding false-positives
The venous blood test includes a PSA test, which checks the health of your prostate gland and, in particular, is usually checked to monitor if someone has prostate cancer. Like with any blood test, there is always a risk of a false-positive result.
The main risk of a false-positive result is that it can lead to extra tests or medical procedures that you might not actually need. These extra tests might have their own risks, and can cause unnecessary worry and stress.

Once your results are ready, we'll notify you via email to set up a consultation with one of our doctors. Discussing your results with our experts is vital, as it allows us to develop a tailored plan for your health improvement. Regardless of whether there are any deficiencies detected, having this consultation ensures we can provide guidance to enhance your overall health.
2. During the consultation, the doctor will provide you with the tailored health plan to help address your symptoms
During your consultation, the doctor will recommend lifestyle modifications to improve your overall health. Additionally, if any deficiencies are discovered, we will propose a suitable treatment plan tailored specifically for your health status.
If your results indicate low testosterone levels, we may recommend a confirmatory blood test to provide the most accurate diagnosis. This step is crucial in developing an effective and personalised treatment plan for you.
