Can I take this medication alongside weight loss treatment?

Updated over a week ago

Painkillers

Yes, in most cases, you can take common painkillers like paracetamol or ibuprofen during weight loss treatment.

  • Paracetamol: Usually safe for short-term use.

  • Ibuprofen (and other NSAIDs): May irritate the stomach or impact blood sugar if used extensively.

  • Opioids: Use as prescribed and with caution due to potential interactions and dependency risk.

If ever in doubt, please consult with your GP or a Numan clinician.

Alcohol

Occasional, moderate drinking may be safe, but check with your healthcare provider first. Avoid alcohol if you experience nausea or other side effects, and never mix with opioid painkillers or sedatives.

It’s best to limit alcohol while taking GLP-1 weight loss medications. These medications may reduce alcohol cravings by acting on the brain’s reward system, but the effect may be temporary, happening mainly in the first few months of treatment.

Drinking heavily can increase health risks and interfere with your weight loss goals. If you have a history of alcohol use disorder, speak with your doctor, as these medications are not a replacement for dedicated treatment.

Herbal supplements

Many herbal supplements are under-researched, meaning that their side effect profiles and potential interactions are unknown. If you are taking or are wanting to take any herbal supplements such as Moringa, please consult with your doctor first.
