Testogel Safety Information
Updated over a week ago

What is Testogel?

Testogel is a prescription medication that contains a form of testosterone, a naturally occurring hormone in men. It is typically prescribed to adult men experiencing conditions related to low or absent testosterone levels. To ensure Testogel is effective, it must be used regularly as directed by your healthcare provider. Discontinuing use without consulting your doctor, even if you feel better, may lead to the return or worsening of symptoms.

How do I use Testogel?

Before first use, prime the canister pump by pressing the actuator three times; discard the initial gel. For consistent testosterone levels, apply Testogel at the same time every morning. Ensure your skin is clean, dry, and healthy, specifically on the upper arm or shoulder. Gently spread the gel in a thin, even layer—there’s no need to rub it in forcefully. After application, wash your hands thoroughly to avoid accidentally transferring the gel to others. Allow the gel to dry for 3-5 minutes before dressing, and always cover the application area with clothing to reduce the risk of exposing others to testosterone. Refrain from bathing or swimming for at least two hours after application to allow the gel to be fully absorbed.

Important Safety Considerations

Testosterone from Testogel can be transferred to others through direct contact with the application area. This may cause the development of male characteristics in women or children. To prevent this, cover the area with clothing once the gel has dried, and wash your hands with soap and water after applying the gel.

Testogel is not intended for use in women. If it comes into contact with the skin of a pregnant or breastfeeding woman, it can harm the baby. Also, because Testogel is alcohol-based, it is flammable until it dries on the skin. Avoid smoking or being near open flames until the gel has completely dried.

What side effects can be caused by Testogel?

While Testogel is generally well-tolerated, be aware of serious side effects such as the risk of blood clots. Symptoms of blood clots may include sudden leg pain or swelling, unexplained shortness of breath, chest pain, or a rapid heartbeat. If you notice any of these symptoms, stop taking Testogel immediately and seek urgent medical attention. Report any concerning symptoms to your clinician to ensure your safety during treatment.

What follow-up is needed to continue taking treatment safely?

Regular monitoring is essential for maintaining the safety and effectiveness of your treatment. It’s crucial to attend all follow-up blood tests at 1, 4, 7, and 12 months to track your biomarkers and ensure your levels remain within a safe range. These tests are included in the programme cost and can be easily booked online. Additionally, you should complete the symptom (AMS) questionnaire at these same intervals to help us monitor your progress.

It’s important to remember that treatment may take between 3 and 6 months to show its full effects. During this period, your doctor may monitor your testosterone levels and adjust the dosage as necessary.

Timing of Blood Tests

Remember to take your blood test at least 4 hours after your morning dose. This helps ensure that the test results accurately reflect your baseline hormone levels, providing your healthcare provider with the necessary information to manage your treatment effectively.
