Yes, you can travel with weight loss medications like Wegovy and Mounjaro, but there are some important steps you should take to make sure your medication remains safe and effective while you’re away.
Injection Storage and temperature
Before use, your pens must be stored in the fridge (between 2°C and 8°C). Once opened, they can be kept at room temperature - but not above 30°C. Mounjaro can be kept out of the fridge for up to 30 days, provided it’s stored in a cool place, including portable coolers. Wegovy must also be stored in a fridge between 2°C and 8°C. However, Wegovy pens can only be kept out of the fridge, in a cool space, for 28 days. If your pens are exposed to higher temperatures, they may become less effective and should be safely discarded using your sharps bin.
To protect your pens while travelling, make sure you:
Store them in their original packaging
Use a medical cooler to maintain a safe temperature in transit
Never freeze your medication
Keep them out of the reach of children
Carry a small, travel-size sharps bin for safe disposal of used needles
Oral Pill Storage and temperature
Unlike the injections, the Wegovy Pill does not require refrigeration in transit or at home. They must remain strictly within the original blister packs (contains integrated desiccant).
To protect your medication while travelling, make sure you:
Store them in ambient / room temperature
Do not cold-pack
Keep them out of the reach of children
Store them in their original packaging. Do not decant into pill planners or pill cases.
Before you travel
Some countries require documentation for prescription medications, so it’s important to check the entry requirements of your destination. You may need a letter explaining your treatment. Numan can provide a copy of your prescription to help you get through airport security. Verify these requirements with the embassy or relevant authorities before traveling.
Always carry your weight loss medication in your hand luggage when travelling. Ensure these are packaged appropriately and that you have your medical note at hand should you need to show it to a travel officer. This prevents exposure to extreme temperatures in the cargo hold, which could compromise the medication's effectiveness.
Plan your doses
Make sure you take enough medication to last for the duration of your trip. Wegovy and Mounjaro injections are usually taken once a week, so count how many doses you’ll need in advance.
The Wegovy Pill is taken daily and comes in a 30-day supply (30 tablets per pack), unlike our weekly injectable plans which follow a 28-day cycle.
