How do I change my weight loss medication?
To request a switch between weight loss medications, such as Mounjaro and Wegovy:
Complete the medication change form.
Answer the questions about your current medication, your dose and the medication you'd like to switch to.
Wait for our clinical team to review your request and confirm your treatment plan.
ℹ️ Only switch medication once your clinician has confirmed your new dose and when to start. We recommend a seven-day gap between your last dose of your previous medication and your first dose of your new medication. Follow any specific instructions your clinician gives you.
What dose will I start on?
Your clinician will confirm the right starting dose for you. The usual starting doses are:
Wegovy: 0.25 mg, followed by the standard dose-increase schedule unless your clinician advises otherwise.
Mounjaro: 2.5 mg, with dose increases usually made monthly, depending on how you tolerate treatment and your clinician's advice.
Even if you were taking a higher dose of your previous medication, you may need to start your new medication at a lower dose. This gives your body time to adjust and helps reduce side effects.
Can I start Wegovy at a higher dose if I was on a high dose of Mounjaro?
Starting Wegovy at a higher dose, such as 1 mg, is considered off-label. This means it is outside the medicine's approved dosing instructions and should only happen under a clinician's supervision. Do not choose a higher starting dose yourself.
Will my new medication be less effective at first?
You may notice a temporary reduction in weight loss effects when starting at a lower dose. Your dose will be increased gradually as appropriate, giving your body time to adjust. Speak to your clinical team if you have concerns about how your treatment is working.
What side effects might I experience when switching?
Common side effects include nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea and constipation. Starting at a lower dose can help reduce these effects.
If side effects are persistent or difficult to manage, contact your clinical team for advice before increasing your dose.
How do I change medication for another treatment?
