How are At-home Tasso+ Capillary Blood Tests taken?

Taking an At-home Tasso+ Capillary Blood Test is easy and convenient. Just follow the simple steps below. Full instructions will be included in your test kit. Please do your test between Monday and Thursday, then post the test on the same day. This helps ensure a more accurate reading by avoiding delays in getting the sample to the lab.

Please be aware that the blood test you are purchasing is intended for personal use only and should not be given to someone else. The results of this blood test will be uploaded to your Numan account, so using it for another individual could result in a breach of medical data privacy.

Step 1: Get prepared

Scan the QR code on the box to receive essential instructions and further guidance for your next steps.

You should set aside around 30 minutes first thing in the morning, before you have eaten, to complete the whole process, especially if it’s your first time taking a blood sample at home. We recommend having a normal evening meal the night before, and drinking plenty of water (2 glasses) 30 minutes before taking your sample. This will ensure the most accurate results and avoid any fainting or dizziness. Some tests require that you avoid eating for at least 6–8 hours overnight, so check the instructions provided.

Seeing the sight of your own blood can also make some people feel dizzy or faint. If you think this could happen to you, we advise taking the test in a comfortable, safe environment and ask someone to assist you in taking your sample.

Massaging the upper section of your arm for 2 minutes, taking a hot shower and doing some light exercise before the test can all help with blood flow and ensure a successful draw.

Remember, the Tasso+ device is for single use only. Once you attach it to your upper arm and press the red button, you might not feel the needle or see blood right away—don’t worry, it’s working. Tasso+ is designed to be virtually painless. Ensure to leave it on until the blood reaches the top fill line, as it cannot be reused once removed.

Step 2: Set up

  • Set up a clean workspace with your Tasso+ device, alcohol swab, plasters, and other kit contents.

  • Wash your hands thoroughly with soap and warm water.

  • On the upper section of your non-dominant arm, rub up and down for about 2 minutes. Then, use the alcohol swab to clean the contact area on your shoulder, and make sure it’s completely dry before attaching the Tasso+ device.

Step 3: Assembly

  • Remove the Tasso+ device from its tray.

  • Remove the cap from the blood collection tube,

  • With fill lines facing out, insert the tube into the Tasso+ device, ensuring it's secure.

Step 4: Sample collection

  • Peel the protective tab from the back, as well as the clear cover from the red button on the Tasso+ device.

  • Stick the Tasso+ device, with the tube facing downwards, onto your preferred site (the upper arm) and press the button until it clicks. It might take up to a minute for the tube to start filling with blood, so don't be concerned if it seems slow at first. And don’t worry — it’s virtually painless.

  • Give it about 5 minutes for the tube to fill up to the mark. If the blood reaches the neck of the tube before 5 minutes have passed, remove the Tasso+ device.

Step 5: Removing and mixing

  • Gently remove the Tasso+ device by peeling it off from one side.

  • Detach the blood collection tube from the Tasso+ device with a slight twist and pull down.

  • Apply pressure to the area on your shoulder with the sterile dry swab to stop the bleeding, wash hands and apply a plaster.

  • Gently invert the tube at least 10 times to mix the blood, but do not shake it.

You do not need to worry if the blood looks like it hasn't mixed.

Step 6: Send your sample

  • secure the sample in provided packaging:

    • Place the blood collection tube into the transportation tube and press firmly to close.

    • Place the transportation tube into the pathoseal bag and seal by removing the metallic silver strip.

    • Ensure the sample collection details on the Instructions For Use leaflet are filled in.

    • Insert the sealed pathoseal bag and the Instructions For Use leaflet into the box provided, and place the box into the large UN3373 return envelope.

    • Seal the envelope by removing the metallic silver strip.

Your kit is ready to be shipped. Return your sample suing the pre-paid envelope provided. Samples should be posted in a Royal Mail late collection postbox, or at a post office, before noon on the same day you collect your sample.
